Following cinematic masterpieces like 8 Mile, Get Rich or Die Trying and, Notorious, Missy Elliot is overseeing a movie based on her life and rise to stardom. Although her childhood was plagued by abuse, Missy Elliot (aka Melissa Arnette) has experienced phenomenal success and is the only female rapper with six platinum albums. The rapper/songwriter/producer was sexually abused by a cousin and saw her mother suffer years of physical abuse from her father. Elliot hopes to showcase her rise, including all the childhood traumas in the movie.

"It's happening; I've just got to find a great writer because I wouldn't want my story watered down", Elliott told Elle magazine. "I went through a lot, and I accomplished a lot, and I want people to know how it all went down".

Missy Elliot got her start in the industry in 1990, forming a short-lived R&B group called Sista. While they had minimal success, the group would see Elliot become part of a larger collective with future stars like Timbaland, Tweet and Ginuwine. Elliot then released her debut album in 1997, Supa Dupa Fly. Its first single, The Rain, was a hit and the album went on to be certified platinum. Her next five albums would follow suit, making her the most successful female rapper in history.
