Only 20 years old, Madelaine Hawke is already one of the country's finest jazz talents.

Editorial

Madelaine Hawke makes rainy day music - and we mean that in the best possible way. Basically, her laid-back jazz and soul is ideal for those lazy, lounging-around-the-house, reading a book and drinking a cup of tea kinda days. Okay, technically it doesn't have to be raining outside, but it probably helps with the general ambience.

Just 20 years old, Hawke is what people used to refer to as an 'old soul', i.e. her music is infused with spirit and emotion far beyond her years. That talent has been recognised by various organisations and seen her booked to play in front of up to 20,000 people (2008 Tropfest in Canberra). She's also played alongside most of the country's jazz greats.

All that writing, performing and recording came to a head last year with the release of Hawke's (and quintet's) debut album and a scholarship to study music in the US. Now back in the country following her overseas jaunt, Hawke is showcasing her talent on the road. As the Canberra Review wrote: "She is sure to be a jazz star of the future".
