As part of this year’s Melbourne Music Week, a strange and wonderful construction of interconnected, illuminated water tanks is landing in Birrarung Marr. First launched in 2006 in Berlin, KUBIK is the cool, modern version of the Spiegeltent – a temporary, outdoor live music venue that pulsates with coloured lights to the music played within. Cut Copy and Midnight Juggernauts present a three-hour opening-night DJ set; other DJs lighting up the cubes will include Japanese hip-hop legend DJ Krush; Frenchies Alexkid and Wax Tailor, Germans Die Vögel and Americans Daedalus and Gaslamp Killer. KUBIK operates as a French infused café by day and opens until midnight on weeknights and 2am on weekends.
