Joey Negro

Joey Negro brings shiny disco house all the way from the UK, via a stopover in Ibiza.

Editorial

Joey Negro is one of the most popular and in-demand DJs around. Renowned for his blend of funk, soul, disco and house, he's produced countless club hits, released a whole lot of mix CDs, plays throughout the world and has remixed acts like Diana Ross, Masters At Work and Mariah Carey.

Mr Negro (aka Dave Lee) got his start making acid house in the late 1980s. He formed Republic Records in 1988 and found himself centre stage at club culture's inception. By 1990 he'd released his first track under the Joey Negro moniker and was one of the first producers to incorporate disco samples in his music. That preference for disco samples would go on to form the backbone of his production and help establish his international reputation.

That said, Negro has released material under several aliases and topped the charts with both soul-drenched house music and more downtempo numbers (as Jakatta). Whichever moniker he's going under, Negro remains the consummate professional, one of the few DJs from house music's earlier days who's not only still around, but still relevant.
