The act of 'dressing up' is one that transcends society's bounds, crossing age, gender and culture barriers through a desire that is shared by all, no matter what your chosen look, style or subculture may be.
The ultimate ego trip of stepping out in your finest of physical presence is one that the people of Brisbane have enjoyed from the era of bustles to the time of bell bottoms and beyond, and has fostered some of Australia's finest fashion exports along the way.
In Fashion: Dressing Up Brisbane opens the closets, wardrobes and drawers of the city, gathering items of aesthetic pleasure from the people who have worn them best, and features couture from the private collections of some of the city's most fashion-focused women and designers.
Hosted by the Museum of Brisbane, the exhibition crosses many memorable eras of fashion, from historical and vintage garments to the designs of today's local clothing creators, including Bora, Easton Pearson and sass & bide, as well as items that have been worn by fashion icons such as Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Hawkins and Sarah Jessica Parker.
