Howling Bells Australian tour
Howling Bells
Editorial
Once they were Aussie indie-pop band Waikiki… then Juanita Stein, her brother Joel, Glenn Moule and Brendan Picchio moved to London and reinvented themselves as moody goth-country outfit Howling Bells, with Juanita offering the same kind of smouldering vocals as Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval. Their self-titled debut album was well received, and they’re regulars on the UK festival circuit, but 2009’s Radio Wars garnered mixed reviews. Now they’re returning for an extended regional tour to share their sprawling new album The Loudest Engine. Recorded in the Nevada desert, its stripped-back folk and blues also recall the open spaces of Howling Bells’ home country.
