Grug
Editorial
When: 10 - 13 August 2011
Where: Arts Centre, ANZ Pavillion
Tickets: The Arts Centre
The ridiculously cute Grug, from Ted Prior's hugely popular picture-book character, might seem like just a small striped haystack with feet and a nose but is actually a highly imaginative creative thinker and doer who is fascinated by the world around him and all the possibilites that come his way.
When dancing instructions are too difficult to understand, he invents his own dance and calls it ‘The Grug’. When snails eat his cabbages, Grug plants more cabbages so there will be enough for both him and the snails.
Winner of the Victor Award for best production at the 2011 IPAY (International Performing Arts for Youth) showcase in Tampa, Florida, there's a lot to love about this puppet, and children and adults alike will be enthralled.
"The fantastically animated faces and wonderful energy of the actors added much excitement to the already charged atmosphere" said Megan (nanny of two) after the first performance in Melbourne. "Cushions at the front bring children and parents closer to the action... A lovely opportunity to add a bit of culture to your child's day."
Check out Grug before he wanders off around the world!
Ted Prior will also be available to meet after the shows on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 August. Bring along your own Grug book or purchase one at the show for Ted to sign.
