Gerties
Editorial
Bar culture was slow to start in Brisbane. While there was no shortage of places to drink, some of the subtleties and nuances of the drinking experience were lacking, such as, people watching. Perched on the corner of Brunswick and Barker in New Farm, one of the great advantages of Gertie’s is the perving.
While Gertie’s is not a bar big in size it is large of character. It hops along with a self-assured vibe knowing that it is delivering on all fronts. The casual fit-out mirrors the relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and while this bar is a cut above the rest, you can leave your attitude at the door thanks.
Drinks-wise you are in for a treat. This is a talented bar crew who can mix a mean martini – if a bartender can get this old timer right they can pretty much do anything. So confident are they of their martini making skills, they have a whole menu dedicated to the drink. Try a Bardot Martini - belvedere vodka, chambord, blackberries, in a sugar rimmed glass. The remainder of the cocktail list is superb – it’s impossible to come here for just one.
Luckily there is the perfect accompanying bar menu for such indulgence. There may be dishes such as salt and pepper squid with chilli and roast capsicum aioli or perhaps tiger prawns with Spanish chorizo a la plancha.
A good all-rounder with a fun laidback vibe.
