At first the Gallon appears all a bit olde-worlde but venture beyond the Gothic arches, iron chandeliers fit to swing by (as in Errol Flynn) and the exposed sandstone walls that contain intimate nooks and crannies and you will discover something less of a theatre-restaurant. It’s more a cosy hideaway that pays somewhat of an homage to an Eastern European heritage, right in the middle of Pyrmont. The menu will not have foodie blogs abuzz with excitement. Simply order to soak up a few Coopers Ales, one or two St Hellier Pear Ciders or a bottle of New Zealand Sav Blanc, the meatballs and pizzas on offer will do the job.
