Future Music Festival is one of the big guns of the summer festival circuit and their 2010 line-up lives up to that reputation. While the event has traditionally been skewed towards dance acts, the latest instalment shows just how much the lines have blurred between genres - these days you can throw The Prodigy, Empire of the Sun and Franz Ferdinand on the same bill without anyone batting an eyelid. Empire of the Sun is the biggest act to come out of Australia in 2009. Originally just a side project for The Sleepy Jacksons's, Luke Steele, and Pnau's, Nick Littlemore, it's become a world conquering monster. The debut album has been certified platinum in Australia after a series of hit singles and the UK looks set to follow suit. Now if someone could just find Littlemore ...
The Prodigy really don't need an introduction. Since the early '90s they've dominated the dance music landscape, combining rave synths with a rock-inspired live show. Invaders Must Die, their latest album, is a welcome return to form and finds them embracing their old-school dance music roots. As for Franz Ferdinand, they may not seem like an obvious choice, but Take Me Home can get pretty much any crowd moving. Add an assortment of live acts and DJs and it's easy to see why Future Music Festival continues to be a sell-out success year after year.
