FourPlay String Quartet: Fourthcoming Tour
Editorial
FourPlay started out as a regular, run-of-the-mill string quartet. Comprised of friends from the Australian Youth Orchestra, they stuck with the classics and wore nice suits and got on with the serious business of being a string quartet. But all that changed in 1995. To cut a long story short, the group members bought distortion pedals and pick-ups and started to loosen their ties while performing. Not long after, they dropped the classical pretences in favour of something altogether more modern - an electronic string quartet.
Almost 15 years later, the group are still going strong, still filling venues and releasing new albums. Fourthcoming is the name of their new, fourth album (see what they did there). It's been in the works for several years and is an amalgamation of the their previous influences and output. Following on from 2001's Digital Manipulation (which featured remixes from Australia's electronica community) and 2006's Now to the Future, the new effort is another cutting-edge blend. The space where X and Y intersect - classic music meets the future at a warehouse party, if you will.
