Forever Barbie
Editorial
When:26 Jun-12 Jul, 10am-6pm, daily
Where: Federation Square
Tickets: $12.50-$15 available from Barbie.com.au
At 50 years old, Barbie is looking as good as ever; so good, in fact, that the little plastic exhibitionist will parade her figure around Melbourne's Federation Square for two weeks, often braving the winter cold in nothing more than a skimpy swimsuit.
The event will feature the largest collection of Barbie Dolls ever assembled in our hemisphere, and this time, accessories are included. Dream houses, cars, campervans, outfits, pets and chiselled boy-toys will accompany more than 300 Barbies in the world's inaugural comprehensive Barbie retrospective.
Rarities will include the first #1 Ponytail Barbie from 1959, one of only three owned by Mattel. An identical doll was auctioned for more than US$25,000 in 2003. A modern update of the 1959 doll has been re-released for the 50th anniversary, alongside the 1962 Brunette Bubble Cut Barbie, 1967 Barbie Twist 'N' Turn, 1971 Malibu Barbie, 1977 Superstar Barbie, and the 1986 Barbie Rockers.
As well as getting an inside look at the design process behind the world's most popular doll with Barbie's personal fashion designer Robert Best, visitors will also have the chance to design their very own Barbie at the exhibition.

The exhibition itself was ok, expect to queue for everything though. The merchandise shop was a joke...$65.00 for a t-shirt!! We went on the 2nd day and they had already run out of kids showbags! We ended up going to BIG W to buy a doll (and of course they were cheaper.)
