Dr. Conrad Murray Keeps Licence
Editorial
Murray's lawyers had appealed to the court to refuse the request due to the fact that Murray would be unable to pay for his legal defence if he did not continue practicing. Although the call to have his licence revoked only pertained to the doctor practicing in California, Murray's lawyers feared the "domino effect" would affect his status in Nevada and Texas, where he routinely practices. Murray also learned after the hearing that Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor is overseeing the manslaughter case. Pastor has dealt with a number of high-profile cases, including those involving Cameron Diaz and Jason Priestly.
Among those at the hearing were several members of Jackson's family, including parents Joe and Katherine, and siblings Janet, Jermaine and Randy. A throng of the star's angry fans could be seen screaming and even singing outside the court, many donning t-shirts with the words "Justice For Michael" emblazoned across them. The next preliminary hearing for Murray's case has been scheduled for 14 June, during which time the question of his right to practice will be raised again. Until then, a visit to Dr. Murray for pain relief is not recommended. We hear he has a penchant for tranquiliser.
