Dianne Reeves is one of the most popular and successful jazz singers to emerge in recent decades.

Editorial

Since making her debut in 1977, Dianne Reeves has won four Grammy Awards, released over 15 studio albums and established herself as one of the world's foremost performers. Her latest effort, When You Know, was released last year to critical acclaim and the veteran singer is currently touring the world in support.

Born and raised in Detroit, Reeves was exposed to jazz from the get-go. Her father was a singer and her mother played trumpet. The rest of the family were equally music focused and several cousins and uncles performed in bands and introduced her to music from Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. By the mid '70s Reeves was studying music at university and performing live every chance she had. Naturally, an album was part of the plan and she released her debut, Welcome to My Love, soon after moving to Los Angeles in 1977.

Since then Reeves has worked alongside some of the biggest names in the jazz field, helped fuse Latin American music with contemporary jazz (she toured with acts like Sergio Mendes) and generally impressed all and sundry with her incredible voice. Catching this performance at the Sydney Opera House is the ideal chance to see the legend, live.
