Discover the evocative narratives in David Walker’s collection of works spanning four decades.

Editorial

Tracing over four decades of work from his student days in Manchester, England to today, Anatomy of the Object reveals a profound fascination with the skeletal form as a vehicle for spatial and structural exploration.

The three cylindrical pendants titled Space Frame 12 (pictured) and cage-like Pendant 2009, made from silver and stainless steel also echo the designer's response to the Australia environment and climate.

Trained in silversmithing, ceramics and industrial design in England, Walker later turned to making jewellery when he relocated to Perth in the '60s and made an immediate and enduring impact on the local, and later national and international, craft and design fields as artist, craftsman, educator and mentor.

Meticulously crafted, these seemingly delicate adornments illustrate Walker's abiding commitment to find forms of expression that articulate his unique response to living in Australia.

Works from the State Art Collection, private lenders and public institutions, as well as key material from the artist's personal collection including works from his student days and new works made specifically for this exhibition are all on show. The artist is also hosting a workshop on Saturday 25 July and an artist talk on Sunday 26 July.
