One of the world's funniest comedians, Englishman Daniel Kitson is also a master storyteller, as evidenced by his engaging elegy to the C-90 mixtape, which he brought to Australia two years ago. Now Kitson returns to the Arts Centre with his new stage show, 66a Church Road - A Lament Made of Memories and Kept in Suitcases.
"Last September I had to move out of my flat after living there for almost six years. I didn't want to. I lived alone. I am single. 66a Church Road was the longest relationship of my life.
"This is a break up show. For my flat," Kitson famously said of the show when it premiered in 2008.
As in any relationship, Kitson fell in love with his flat despite its flaws, and when he was forced to move on from his Crystal Palace home he was broken hearted. Through a carefully crafted monologue, the award-winning Kitson shares his tale with us, juxtaposing anger and heartache, beauty and lunacy, creating in the process an engaging and honest exploration of the struggle to stay human in an increasingly commercialised world.
By turns touching and hilarious, this is not just a story about learning to love the eccentricities of your home, it's an intimate and revealing monologue about what 'home' means for us all - especially for a man who is constantly touring the world.
