Three albums into her alt-country and blues career, Corrina Steel has the media paying attention.

Editorial

Country singer Corrina Steel has been quietly making a name for herself this past decade. While she's long been a favourite on the live scene and has played every country and ute muster you can think of, the mainstream media has finally picked up on the fact she's actually really, really good. The Sydney Morning Herald has described her as "arguably the most important left-field country music talent to emerge in this country since Kasey Chambers". The Age went with "top notch ... a full, round and effortless voice".

They may be right, but they're also late to the party. Steel already has two albums under her belt - Blues is a Good Woman Gone Bad and Wayward. Her latest, A Fling with the King, sees her adding a bluesy element to proceedings and getting a whole lot of media attention in the process. That's what a trip to Mississippi can do to a musician - especially when they find themselves hanging out with famous slide guitarists and taking part in impromptu jams alongside various blues legends.

The point is, A Fling with the King is very good. Expect to see and hear a lot more from Steel in the coming weeks and months, as she makes her way around the country in support.
