Convergence
Editorial
When: 18 Jul-17 Aug 2009
Where: Yarra Lane
Featuring cafes, restaurants and boutique retailers, the new Yarra Lane brings Melbourne's celebrated inner city laneway culture to the new commercial heart of South Yarra linking Chapel Street to South Yarra station.
Held in conjunction with the 2009 State of Design Festival, leading Australian designers will respond to this year's theme of 'Sampling the Future', bringing to life nine installations to launch South Yarra's newest laneway shopping precinct.
Sponsored by the Victorian State Government, Convergence @ Yarra Lane is part of Design for Everyone, the Festival's public and cultural program aimed at exploring the importance of design to our future.
Participants include the Monash Architecture Design Studio's inhabitable display space, the award-winning Solivoid Project, combining art and architecture, graphics and multimedia, along with independent designers such as jeweller Julia deVille, Nick Rennie, Laura Woodward, James Carey, Emma van Leest, Rosie Scott, Leah Heiss and Moth Design, all presenting their unique take on future trends in design.
Offering a diverse program of over 80 interactive events, exhibitions, workshops and talks, The State of Design Festival runs from 15 to 25 July 2009.
