If you've ever dreamed of running away to join the circus, you'll definitely want to see the latest show by Circus Oz in order to get some tips. Their new production, Barely Contained, is two hours of non-stop action, and features superbly executed aerial mastery, jaw-dropping acrobatic performances and amazingly comedic pandemonium, all set to a toe-tapping score by the dynamic, original and eclectic music of the acclaimed Circus Oz band.
Now 31 years old, the larrikin spirit of Circus Oz remains evergreen; and with Barely Contained, this mob of outrageous and remarkable carny folk prove that they've got the goods to keep entertaining Australian and international audiences for another 31 years to come.
The show introduces numerous brand new performers and acts - including the outstanding Emma J Hawkins, a remarkable all-rounder who stands just over one metre tall - while also welcoming back some familiar Circus Oz faces, such as strongwoman Mel Fyfe.
Hawkins' stilt-walking routine, which pokes fun at the traditional image of the ballerina while simultaneously subverting feminine stereotypes (a Circus Oz tradition) - is one of the show's most memorable scenes; but every minute of this show is jam-packed with eye-popping action and startling physical performances, from chair balancing and hoop diving to amazing aerial acts that will have you picking your jaw up off the ground after the show.
Opening and closing with a bang, Barely Contained is Circus Oz at the top of their game. Don't miss it!
