Chris Brown Pleads Guilty

Only hours before Rihanna was due to take the stand, Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to assault.

Editorial

Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to assaulting Rihanna as part of plea bargain. The deal was struck just hours before a preliminary hearing and means neither Brown nor Rihanna will have to take the stand. More importantly, it means Brown avoids potential jail time. According to the deal struck, Brown will be required to undertake six months of community labour and be placed on five years probation. He will also have to undergo a year of counselling for domestic violence and must stay at least 50 yards away from Rihanna at all times.

As Rihanna was supposed to take the stand the same day Brown accepted the plea bargain, we can only assume his lawyers were desperately scrambling to avoid that scenario. Leaked photos of a bruised and battered Rihanna that circulated on the internet following the incident certainly didn't do Brown's career any favours.

The community labour is expected to include graffiti removal, picking up trash alongside highways and other manual duties enforced upon offenders in lieu of jail time. The judge overseeing the case thanked Brown for "taking responsibility" for his actions and has allowed him to fulfil the terms in Virginia (where Brown lives), rather than LA (where the case took place).
