Canvas Club
Editorial
It's this reviewer’s suspicion that the name of this really cute little bar in one of Brisbane's niche dining and drinking destinations was a call to action to the team of stylists who put it together so beautifully. The interior has been treated like a canvas upon which layers of texture and tone-on-tone application of browns, creams and beige have been applied with precise abandon, to create a warm and inviting boutique bar that would not be out of place in even the most formidable of worldly cities.
It was with much acclaim that the Canvas Club arrived in Brisbane, as one of the first to follow the small-bar model that has been received with so much favour in Melbourne. Canvas is intimate in size and bespoke in its styling, as are the patrons it attracts. The bar menu impresses with more artistry in the way of delicate illustrations providing a backdrop to a long list of cocktails on offer (around $16), wines from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, France and Italy ($36 - $75 by the bottle or around $9 - $12 by the glass) and plenty of local and imported beers and ciders (around $9).
Tuesday nights’ are for tapas and tequila. Thursday nights are all about absinthe. Sundays see live jazz bands playing from 3pm with cheese and wine specials. It's hard to imagine that life could go on without bars like Canvas, for the guys that created it have captured a moment that is special for Brisbane.
