Beirut on tour
Beirut
Editorial
Named after the historic Middle East hub, it’s only fitting that U.S. songwriter Zac Condon’s band Beirut exudes a worldliness rare in indie rock. Over three albums, Condon has led his players through unlikely corridors of trans-continental instrumentation and influence. His songs leap across the globe from Mexico and the Balkans to France and Belgium, and his swelling legion of fans have been only too happy to follow. Not counting a stopgap double-EP in 2009, August’s The Rip Tide was Beirut’s first album in four years. It finds Condon still fixated with geography, naming songs East Harlem and Santa Fe, among others.
