Bees Neez Apiaries
Editorial
If you find yourself lured to honey-pots much like Winnie the Pooh, spare a thought for the folk at Bees Neez Apiaries. David and Leilani Leyland have owned Bees Neez since 1982 and have been known to travel up to 80,000 kilometres a year throughout Western Australia maintaining around 500 bee-hives. When they're not off gallivanting across the country-side gathering honey, the Leyland's can be found at their headquarters one hour east of Perth in Beechina, which is also home to a boutique gift shop packed to the rafters with honey and all sorts of honey by-products from beeswax candles to hand and face creams made using beeswax as a base.
The gift shop is open every Sunday for tastings and sales; grab a paddle pop stick and get to sampling the current varieties of pure natural, jarrah, Goldfields Mallee and redgum honey. Each honey has its own unique taste and different properties which make it suitable for adding to drinks, cooking, spreading on piping hot crumpets and even for medicinal purposes. If you phone ahead you might even be able to watch the honey being extracted at the Bees Neez processing plant. For more information on Bees Neez Apiaries phone (08) 9572 6116.
