Not even the organisers of last year’s cultural climax had predicted just what peaks they would reach. As if by western magic, more than 50,000 punters climbed into the fun as artists, musicians, designers and providers of delectable morsels offered a sample of their wares.

Business folk and artists from this much-loved strip put on such a show that there was no question that 2011 would be an enormous year. Just how colossal is yet to be seen with events being added to the already full-to-bursting program even at the time of writing.

The Barlee Street car park is transformed into the YACWA stage where locals can savour folkie flavour from Louis Inglis, Kathryn Rollins and more. There’s also a stage given over to pop, one to rock and a little laneway full of turntablism. For respite from the sound, pop into one of dozens of art exhibits; we like the look of Joy Stix , at the rear of 448 Beaufort Street. Here, you’ll find a wealth of retro game machines.

You shan’t go hungry. Nor should you return home without enhancing your culinary knowledge. There’s cooking classes aplenty; including a martini master class.

There’s really no excuse not to savour this community’s flavour.
