A Day on the Green: The B-52s
Editorial
"The Big Day Out for grown ups" - that's how some sections of the media have described A Day on the Green, and they may well have a point. The traveling concert series makes its way from winery to winery, providing music and atmosphere better suited towards an older crowd. The formula has proven remarkably successful since its inception in 2001, and with The B-52's and The Proclaimers on board for 2009, that's set to continue.
Depending on your age, you may have first encountered The B-52's via Rock Lobster in the late '70s, Love Shack in the late '80s or, more recently, with their soundtrack for the Flintstone movies. The point being, they're one of rock'n'roll's true survivors; a party band that has managed to rise above music trends and do their own thing for four decades. And hey, Rock Lobster is a timeless classic.
The Proclaimers will forever be know for their successive number one hits, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) and I'm On My Way. The Scottish twins may not have troubled the charts since the late '80, but they have written several critically acclaimed follow-ups. Throw in picturesque outdoor locations, a la carte menu options and an impressive selection of local wines, and you have the ideal festival experience for anyone the older side of Big Day Out.
